inner compass

I dare you to look into your own eyes
In the mirror for an hour, you might be surprised
For sixty minutes, step gently away
With an attitude of observance, and judgment at bay
Untie the ribbon of perception’s case
Open your eyes, try to embrace
The stranger staring back in the mirror
Is it the same person you thought would appear?

Keep steady a solemn steadfast glance
Walk with yourself, to take that chance
To embrace the confidence that’s sure to come
You have to be willing, you have to succumb
For when you look to see not look to critique
Really open your eyes to your own unique
In your own way, with your own terms
Never needing someone else to confirm
Or justify your own existence
Because in yourself you find persistence

So today. Just an hour, take time to see
Stop being who everyone wants you to be
Let go, let lose, find the will to surpass
For that’s when you find your own inner compass
